What year is it??? What body style is it??? Is it a 4 speed tranny car??? How much are they wanting for it??? A 460 in a Mustang is not unusual, just a big PITA to do anything as far as work on them. NO ROOM IN THE BAY FOR ANYTHING! I've heard stories of jacking 1 side of the engine at a time to change spark plugs. Forget that, a 351 stroked is all the engine you will ever want.
yeah, well im not really looking at it anymore, but its interesting none the less. The car is a 1970 Fastback.
so its the same engine as a 429...longer stroke or something? bigger bore?

Ford made engines in all of those displacements, as did a few other manufacturers. The 427 and 428 are part of the FE family. The FE family was introduced in the late fifties and includes the 332,352,390,406,410, 427 and 428 engines. The FE's all share the same dimensions. There were also a few other displacements that were based on the FE but were designed for truck use. They are called FT's and are very similer to the FE. The 427 saw very limited use in Mustangs (late 67 early 68?) and was designed for high RPM use, such as Nascar. It did find it's way into many Chris Craft boats as well as some industrial applications. If you hear someone talking about "cross bolted main's" they're either talking about a 427 or a 406 as they were the only FE's to get them. The 428 was available in various performance levels ranging from a basic sedan motor to the CJ and SCJ. Only the CJ and SCJ versions were available in Mustangs from 68-70.
The 429 is from a newer "385" engine family that includes the 460 and a couple of truck only displacements. IIRC, it was introduced in 1969. Like the 428, the 429 was available in a few different versions from a basic 2bbl. to a CJ and SCJ and of course the BOSS. The BOSS was available in Mustangs in 69-70. The non-BOSS version became available in Mustangs in 71. I think it was dropped sometime in 72. The 460 is a popular crate engine these days but it was not offered as a performance motor in cars.
