Carburetor Problem
I have an Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650 on top of my car's 302. Everything has been working fine for about a year and a little over 3000 miles. Well other than running slightly rich. It didn't matter if it was freezing outside or 100 degrees, it would start faily easily and run fine.
This is the one I have.

Earlier tonight on my way back from a car show, it made it almost all the way home from a 30-40 mile drive. Then it started loading up. As I turned into my neighborhood it stalled and would not fire back up. I pushed the car quite a ways downhill until I reached hill that I could not push it up. So I decided to try to restart. Well it barely started. I had to hold the pedal down and keep my foot on the gas. It was definitely flooded. I managed to keep it running long enough to make it on to my street. Then it stalled again. I opened the hood and heard would sounded like a coffee pot.
I removed the air cleaner and looked inside the carb and there was fuel either boiling or something is wrong with the floats and it was just flowing into the carb. I don't know what is going on. I wonder if this is the result of too much fuel pressure. I hope the carb is not shot to hell now.
I'll post a picture of how my fuel line is routed. Maybe it is the problem. I just don't get why it never did this when it was 100+ degrees and I had the AC on.
Its kind of ironic that I just installed dealer option hood light and emergency flashers. They both came in handy tonight.

I always thought the the Edelbrock carbs were more reliable, but after this issue and hearing of some other issues that people have had, I'm beginning to wonder if I should switch to a Holley.
i had the very same carb. I had problems with a stuck float or something. when i had my electric fuelpump on the carb filled the cylinder with petrol so i couln't even crank over anymore.
I'd check for that first ... float levels and fuel pressure

Thanks for the input Kalli. I'm still running a mechanical fuel pump.
I don't know if it was boiling over, but I doubt it since it wasn't hot outside. I'm thinking it could be a stuck float. It looked like gas was just pouring into the carb.
Now that I think about it when I did get it to run, as soon as I made a turn it would stall. That sounds more like a float issue.
How do you adjust the floats on an Eddy carb? Should it be set to 7/16" on all of their carbs?
I wonder if some of the recent carb problems not matter what brand of carb is related to the today's type of fuel. Someone recently said that Sta-Bil should be run in the gas at every fill up on a carbed vehicle.
Here is a picture of how my fuel line is routed. It connects at the back of the carb and goes under the choke. It didn't seem like it was too hot to touch. I also have a transparent filter before the fuel pump and I didn't notice anything abnormal going on there.

Just had the same thing with my sons holley on a 302 today. This is the fourth time it he has gotten dirt in the needle and seat. It also gets a fine rust powered film in the bowls.
We have 2 inline filters in series and the junk still gets thru. Todays problem happened in his way back from a show about 30 miles from home. I directed him by phone on how to remove the needles and seats and blow them out. He got it back together and is on his way.
He is going to order a tank tonight, it already has all new lines. I guess the new fuels realy do loosen up what is in a 40 year old tank.

if a carb boils over (bad insulation, heated pipes etc) it does it at all weather conditions (no matter if it's freezing outside)
--> I'm thinking it could be a stuck float. It looked like gas was just pouring into the carb
yes. if you can see fuel pouring it's a stuck float alright. check on what Starfury said. and here's some bedtime reading:

Thanks for the reading material Kalli. I was going to dig that paperwork out, but thats a lot easier.
2+2GT, The pump I have is a Summit brand mechanical that is rated for 8 psi. I didn't even think about it back when we got the pump. I was considering getting the Edelbrock pump that is rated for 6 psi, since the Edelbrock doesn't want high pressure.
Yeah, I'm going to order a regulator. Does it need to me mounted remotely? I'm trying to avoid more fuel line routing. I was hoping it would be ok to mount it directly to the mechanical pump. Is that ok or a bad idea?
I'm going to inpect the floats tomarrow.
