Default Rear End Question

Ok so someone swapped the 9" in my car for an 8" before i bought it. I am putting in a 500 hp 351c and a 4 speed toploader. My question is will the 8" hold up to some abuse until i can find a 9" to replace it with? Thanks.

I found a 71-73 9" that im going to go take a look at here shortly. The guy wants $350 for it. Is this a decent price assuming its complete and not trashed?

Yeah

You'll want to replace the bearings in it anyhow. maybe the gears too.

Yeah i was already planning on putting some new 3.73 in and new bearings. Anyone know how much a shop might charge to do the install?

I would think 180 to 220 range to have the buy and install the bearings along with installing your new gears.

A 3.73 might be a bit steep with your hp/tq setup

Your gonna want a limited slip diff right?

a 3.25 might be a good choice for a gear.

With a one tier fryer and 3.73 with 500 hp in front of it is a waste of time.

Hmm ok then i was told that i would probably want a 3.55 or a 3.73 but the 3.25 does make sense. And yes of course a limited slip diff is a must.

With that much power even with the LSD a 3.73 would break loose very easy. you'll have plenty of power to dominate even a 3.00 to 3.25 especially with that close ratio.

best of all you'll still be able to drive it on a freeway with a 3.00-3.25

What is the car going to be used for mainly?
