Default tie rods

I would like to thank everyone for all the valuable info that I have gained off of this site. I recently did the disc brake swap and I am finishing up the rebuild on the front suspension on my 67 coupe. When I went to replace my tie rod outers I noticed that the old one was a bent looking shape and new one was straight. My car is a 67 coupe with 289 and P/S, the reserch that I have done says that the bent looking tie rod is for a 65-66 with power steering, did the 67's use these as well.

No, the 64-66 rod, and 67 rod are both straight, and the same for left and right. The 68-73 type have a sharp bend at the lower arm end, and are left and right.

The 65/66 drivers side power steering tie rod ends are curved to clear the control valve mounted to the end of the centerlink. Manual steering rods are straight since there is no control valve to clear.

In 1967, Ford changed the clocking position of the control valve on the centerlink, so the tie rod clearance wasn't an issue, and the tie rod ends are fairly straight, both drivers and passenger side. They continued this through 1968 and 1969. In 1970 the tie rods are the same except the diameter of the swivel stud was enlarged to make the parts stronger.

Randy (Stanger) is right on.

The 65 66 Power Steering Drivers side outer will have a curve in it (336L). The Passengers side will be straight (336R). If a Manual steering 65 66, then both sides will have a straight 336R outer. Inners on Power Steering will be 713 Passenger, Driver 714. Inner on Manual steering will be 713 both sides.

The 65 66 6 Cylinders are different yet--Yes Manual steering 6 cylinder is different than Power steering 6 cylinders.

The 65 66 Tie Rods, any of them, will not work on the 67-69 Mustangs. The Pin size/Stud will have the exact same size castle nut, BUT the taper of the Pin will be different, Will not work. All 67 68 69 Outer will be 360, inners 364.

As Randy stated the 70 had a yet different pin size.

Well it looks as if someone in the past had replaced the lower half of the power steering with a 66 for whatever reason, thought it was odd when I took the nut off the tie rods and they fell to the floor(no BFH required). Looks like I will have to replace the whole assembly back to a 67, not to thrilled at this point but I guess thats the way it goes with these old cars and not knowing what has been done to them in the past.
