It Happened!
I took the AC out of my 70. My wife has NO problem with it. Open up the vents on the kick panels, roll down the windows, and enjoy a nice cruise.
If she needs AC she's too high maintenance. If she really appreciates the classic car for what it is, she'll understand, and she'll learn to love being a little uncomfortable, maybe a little too hot, and getting out and smelling like gasoline and exhaust. It's part of the fun.
My car backfired and died on Sunday on my way to a car show. Had to have it towed home. You know what? My wife didn't say a thing. It's part of the car and it's style. It's old. Things break.
Now I just need to finish installing my new HEI distributor so I can get it back running.

I still need to get my exhaust ran so I can actually talk to people instead of half yelling. I'll probably get that done next wednesday. Also need to get my reverse lights hooked up.
There's the difference, getting the wife to ride in a hot car the 2nd time is a lot easier than getting a 2nd date to ride in it when you get out soaked with sweat. It really makes a difference where you live too. I moved from 40yrs. in La. with 95% humidity ~9mos./yr. good luck on getting a 2nd date with no A/C
I'll be installing A/C in my '67 once it's painted and like Jake, plan to DD it and put a lot of miles on with long trips so the A/C will be necessary for family comfort (I normally ride windows down) and for defrost when I get caught in downpours. If it's a fair weather weekend car that may be a different story. Also the A/C belt is the front belt so easy enough to pop off at the 1/4mi.
Really coming along Jake, my engines still not in, once I get the headers to clear the AOD it'll be going together. Maybe I'll make the Pulaski show this year with it.

A/C probably would have allowed me to get my wife into the car this summer for a cross country trip... We are still considering towing the stang from WA to CA then over to NC by way of the Grand Canyon (supporting AZ economy). Not decided yet, but A/C with a Sanden compressor shouldn't rob much power, so it will happen eventually... Also newer, comfortable seats are a must.
I'm gonna make a final decision this week. I've got enough money to order the A/C kit. If I don't order it I'll probably go with a cam, and other accessories

I know the Vintage Air setup we have is great. Install was fairly simple. Had the occasional curse tossed in for good measure but overall simple. The included ends which attach to the compressor I replaced due to bad angles but that's because things aren't stock and I was using the March Performance brackets up front. Cost was like 10 bucks for the 2 new ends which I had powder coated mirror black before install.
Well worth the money! We have the windows down and the A/C turned on low most of the time and it keeps the cabin nice and cool. High will freeze you out!
When we did the initial charge and temp test I was in the car with short and t-shirt, windows rolled up and A/C on high for 10 minutes. Temperature dropped down to about 9° inside the cabin!

Does that Vintage Air kit replace the stock heater box? That's what I want to do as I had to JB weld a couple parts of my old heater box together and I'd just like to replace the whole thing when I eventually add A/C. Does it replace the heater core too? I believe I have heared of a kit or two that uses an electric heating element so it heats up quicker in the winter.
Stephen, pretty sure both the VA and CAA replace the heater core/box as it's a complete unit from the ones I've seen on display at car shows, here's there websites with plenty of pics, both offer hang under or dash units for original A/C or nonA/C cars:

Classic just came out with an upgrade that replaces the cables with electronic controls but still uses your stock dash levers.

By the way, thanks for your service and supporting AZ, I'll be avoiding buying anything from SF or any other city/state that boycotts AZ!

Well I was supposed to have my 67 sold to my moms friend. However I just got word that I will not be selling my car and instead will be getting around $4000 to spend on mods.
So 289/302/351W swap here I come. As well as front suspension and A/C.
