Back on the boot issue...

I got the old one off as per everyone's advice. I walked it over the t-handle and applied extra violence to get it over the gear ****.

now i cant get the replacement back on. it wont even go over the ****. There must be a way to do this! Its a standard replacement from one of the vendors.

btw Kalli. the box end isnt an option. It goes to a kind of T where it bolts to the selectors which is bigger than the lockout T.

anyone?

Remove the **** and you should be good to go. The boot will stretch over the t-lock.

It should twist off. There should also be a nut on the bottom of it. It allows you to get it straight. Try backing the nut off, which would actually be rotating it so it goes farther on the shifter.

thanks Tx

it doesnt seem to have any nut

the black ball is sitting on a chrome half ball shaped bezel then onto the stalk of the shifter.

there seems to be 2 small holes thru the bezel (on the underside). I thought these might have had grub screws or similar but they'd be really small if thats what they are.

i'm wondering if PO (who is known to have done dumb things to this car) maybe glued it on?

Is the shifter ball a factory type one or a custom one? If its a custom one, maybe it doesn't fit right and is crossthreaded.

The chrome thing is the locknut.

Usually I just get a grip on the shaft with my hand against the locknut, and unscrew the **** from the top. However, a snap ring plier works well to hold the nut while removing the ****.
