Default headliner

Well, my 66 has been sitting in the garage for a few years and i started getting her back out. I noticed my headliner has split in the middle seam and is sagging down. Is there any way to repair it on the car, or does it just need to be replaced? Im sure it does, but is it totally true that you have to have the front and rear windshields out to replace it?

Yeah, it's true. Any trick that tries to avoid removing the glass just doesn't hold up. Here you can see a 68 GT350 that already has the headliner installed. While being detailed, the headliner has been protected from dust, overspray, etc.

Trust me, the hard part is NOT removing the front and rear windows....its the headliner. The windows seem like a piece of cake after pulling, yanking, trimming the headliner to remove all the wrinkles and get it tight.

in the spirit of full disclosure, you can in fact install a headliner without removing the glass. It isn't easy but it can be done. I did it to my 69 coupe and although it didn't turn out perfect but not bad and way better than the crappy headliner that was in it. So removing glass is best and easiest but it can be done without it if you aren't demanding perfect results and just don't want to have to remove the glass.

the only way to get it right would be to remove the glass. you should be able to get the front and back glass removed and installed for around $150 or less

While on this subject... I bought my '68 coupe without a headliner or rods. I have new rods/liner and will be attempting to replace it soon (with the glass out). Does anyone know the order of the colored rods?

The 69-73 does not require removing the front glass.

For the additional work of removing the glass, you get excellent results, instead of just "better than before".
