Front disc you will stop faster the rear brakes only do like 20% of the cars stopping so most rear disc are just for looks.

I have 4 wheel disc brakes, but thats only because the Versailles rear end came with them. I have Granada front. I recommend front disc brakes for a good upgrade, but rear are not necessary. If I didn't have the Lincoln rear end, I would most likely still have drum in the rear.

A good option for front disc brakes is to just get the OE style brakes. The Granada front work great too.

Disc brakes will not give you more stopping power, unless they're of the large aftermarket variety. They have many advantages, but that's not one of them.

Drum brakes work fine on a street driven car that doesn't see a lot of hard stops. I drove my daily driver for 7 years or so with 4 wheel manual drums. Plenty of stopping power for day to day needs.

That said, upgrading to factory discs was one of the best things I've ever done. They don't necessarily stop faster, but they stop STRAIGHT, every time. Even properly adjusted drums may pull during a hard stop, but discs don't have that problem. In addition, they don't fade like drums will. I drive my car very hard on occasion and I've never been able to fade my KH 4-piston brakes. Not to say it's not possible, just that I haven't been able to do it on windy country roads.

aye, when you're sick of a jerking steering wheel when you brake, upgrade to disc.
my discs are way better than my drums, but the reason for it was probably that I had well undersized 6cylinder drums in the front. not a good ida with a V8.
Another reason to upgrade is that you will get a dual master cylinder with it that adds a _LOT_ to safety.

Front disc brake upgrade was the best thing ever for my car. It's manual braking still and I like the behavior BETTER than the way my 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe brakes. Awesome stopping power, no jerking and full control over the stopping power applied.

When I had drum brakes I felt like I had to stamp the pedal through the floorboard to get enough braking power. A day-night kind of difference indeed!
