Default Another vibration thread...ugh!!

Well first off, I used the search and read up on everything I could find on vibration including the causes and what to look into. My 65 Mustang seems to vibrate at all speeds cruising down the highway and the vibration is pronouced enough to feel it through the floor boards and steering wheel. I don't remember the vibration when I first drove the car before the engine tear down but the car overheated continuely so it was never driven more than a few miles.

This is what all has been done:

*Original 289 engine pulled apart, flushed and put back together. (Blocked water ports because of sitting for a long period of time)

*Tri-Y long tube headers installed. (Driver side seems to just touch the outer corner of the motor mount)

*Brand new dual exhaust installed

*Chrome oil pan installed. (Pan is a bit taller than original and seems to just touch the stabilizer bar?? I can't even get a really small screw driver between the pan and the bar.

*Brand new driveshaft with new u joints.

*Replaced rear end with another used unit off of a donor Mustang as mine was bent. (Evident from the passenger rear wheel wobbling while traveling down road.)

*Brand new clutch including pilot bearing in back of engine block.

*Brand new wheels/tires and all balanced

The engine runs strong, no misfiring, etc. So my question is... could the oil pan touching the support bar cause this or perhaps the header barely touching the motor mount?? I talked to one person who didn't think that would cause it but I am having second thoughts.

Does the vibration happen at idle? I would think that if it was the motor contacting that the vibration would happen anytime the motor is running and be RPM dependant.

One thing you could try, is if you still have the old drive shaft and its useable, throw it in and see what happens. This will tell you if its the new drive shaft.

Yes, the vibration does occasionally occur during idle but it is not consistant.

As for the driveshaft I don't have another one as the car came with the wrong one when I bought it so I had to have the yolk replaced so it would work.

Start with the oilpan

Take a few washers and place them between the bar and where it mounts so when you bolt it back together the bar sits down a bit lower and wont touch the oil pan...Test and see if that dun fixed it.

-Gun

pS even if it doesnt stop the vibration at least now the bar wont wear through the oil pan after a few 1000 miles.

as above. you need to find out when it's vibrating. If it's in idle/park then it most certainly is not driveshaft rearend as they are not moving. if it's in idle/park you just need to check which engine part or gearbox part is touching the chassis. anything else apart from gearbox mount and engine mount is not allowed touching.

Good idea. I will try that tonight.

The car does vibrate in park every so often but every once in awhile I will start it and it doesn't vibrate. That is partially why I am confused as to what is causing it. I have checked all engine parts and gearbox and nothing is touching besides the oil pan. I will washer the bar tonight and see what happens.
