speedo cable?
So I unscrewed my speedo cable to grease it up because it was very wobbly and didn't remain steady. I greased it up but now the nut just won't seem to screw back onto the back of the guage. I fought with it for like an hour or more. Is there any trick to this or something I should know that I'm not doing to get this back on? Thanks!
Yeah, in the tight confines of the dash with the stiffness of the cable it can be very difficult to get the nut on straight. Take your time, reposition the cable to give you the flexibility you need. Oh, and put some gun oil on the speedo shaft.
Depending on the year of your car, if it gets to be a real bitch you might pull the cluster and hook the cable from the top.
Pulling the cluster on Jim's 66 is (even when stock) easy cheesy.... way less than an hour with little chance for "complications" if due care is taken.
Also, if you are going to attack it from the bottom again, think about pulling the drivers seat. Makes life a lot easier when working under that bitch of a dash, and it only takes about 5 min to R&R.
I pull that seat ANYTIME I need to work under that dash.
