Default old suspension

Is there any danger in leaving old suspension in a car?

When driving over bumps, the front suspension will sometimes let out a crack - not as if anything is snapping or breaking, just that its old. If OK, I just want to replace the springs and shocks.

Would anyone advise against this idea?

lol ... well a creeeeeekkk is pretty normal when it'd dried out, needs greasing/replacing. a crack is bad. find the source, replace worn bushings, rubbers and joints

Depends on the condition of the suspension. Mine is still stock, but last year I replaced just about every part of the suspension you could name except the springs themselves and the sway bar. If it was a wear item, it was replaced. It's not that hard, though some parts will refuse to come off without the proper persuasion, and it did kind of tickle my insides a bit while working around the compressed spring, which literally has tons of force stored in it when compressed, while replacing the A arm. A major concern with these classic Mustangs is the condition of the shock towers. They withstand a lot of stress and are noted for cracking.

Like Kalli stated, a creaking noise is usually a dry bushing and or ball joint. The uppers are metal on metal with a grease joint doing the lube - If it goes dry it ain't pretty. Sounds like its time for a grease job a the least.

yea, unfortunitely I was expecting these answers. I was hoping to avoid re-doing the suspension, this is actually for a falcon. I did an entire rebuild on my mustang and thought I could get away with it here.

its definitily stock, in fact the whole car is but its been outside most of its life - by the pacific :/ and theres some surface rust and wear. I'll try the grease, and if that doesn't do it, then I'll replace it all.

Thanks
