That's exactly why I did the AOD swap. I have 3.70 gears in mine (why the previous owner would put that rear end in a convertible is beyond me). At 60 MPH, the engine was spinning 3000 RPM. Now it hums quietly at 2000 RPM.

Just know that buying the transmission is nowhere close to the end of your expense. With only 15K on that tranny, you might get away without having it gone through, but you should at least replace the front & rear seals. The AOD swap kit from PATC cost almost $600. You'll need longer bolts to bolt it to the block. I had to have my drive shaft shortened (not much, maybe 1"). My header flanges touched the transmission pan (the AOD pan is wider than the C4), so I had to have the exhaust modified.

Yeah I am hoping this will cost under 1500 total, since that would still have me about a grand less than installing a gear vendors unit. Will the stock torque converter from the donor car work with the swap or will I need to change that also?

Yes the stock converter will work. Make sure you get that with the transmission. Also be very careful you get it properly installed onto the transmission. It slides onto the spline, turns a little, then slides farther onto a second spline.
