Default 289 302 swap

Where can I get a timing cover to fit a factory aluminum water pump?
I am putting a 1986 302 in to a 1966 289 with factory air. We are using the original V pullys. Bought a timing cover, but the water pump won't fit it. The tC is also 1/2" thinner than the original....which is trashed. If someone makes a water pump with the outlet on the passenger side that would work also.It just needs to be 1/2" longer to get correct pulley alignment. Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions

The factory aluminum water pump was discontinued in mid-1965 with Change Level 7. Thereafter, a RH inlet iron water pump was used. The timing cover for the aluminum pump is not available new. However, the 66 type, which uses the iron pump, is available. If you use the 66 cover, 66 pump, and 66 timing chain (and 66 fuel pump eccentric), it will all fit and work together. Your 86 5.0 requires a 50 oz balancer, while the 289 used a 28 oz (makes it really easy to remember).

There is a special 66-style 50oz balancer made exactly for this conversion. You'll need to do the flywheel, too.

Thanks I have the balancer and flywheel resolved. The iron water pump did not fit on the new cover either......different bolt pattern. It is possible they just gave me the wrong one. Will try again. The fuel pump is not an issue as i am using electric. The engine 302 has a double roller chain. I am assuming this will work.

It should. The timing cover you need looks like this. Note the bolt pattern, and timing pointer.
