NEW MOTOR DILEMA!!!
Ok so i posted few days back stating that my flywheel or tq converer may be loose making noise. found out that wasnt the case. Got underneath the car earlier when it was running and put my head right up against the oil pan. Its in there!!! something is knocking around unfortunatly. This is a brand new build and i havnt rapped it up at all! it prolly has 3-4hours of run time total and this is a huge letdown.
So Im almost positive it isnt a rod knock. the lower the rmp the louder it is if i rev it a little it is not there. it almost sounds if my oil pump is loose or there is a wrench or something in there! im confused and very dissapointed. what do you guys think it could be?!
The motor is a 351w. btw

Didn't you have a shop rebuild the engine?
I seem to remember it that way, if so, if the shop put the pan on check with them before dropping it, you will want them to stand behind their work.
Noises like these are very hard to isolate no matter where it sounds to be coming from, and since the pan is thin, most any heavy metallic noise will sound like it is coming from the pan. I would tend to concentrate on the bell housing area, cracked flex plate, etc.
Incidently, last time I heard a bad sound coming from a new engine, my brother in law had "secretly" dented the oil pan into the crank... he failed to mention this fact before he decided to ship the engine all the way to NC to be "fixed", what a dumb ***.
