Default HELP my engine wont start!

Ok guys i need some help. I have a freshly rebuilt 302. everything has been done new valves. bored 30 over, harden seats new rings pistons the works. I have an edelbrock 289 performer intake manifold, mallory HEI distributor. I bought a used edelbrock 1406 carburetor. the carb was rebuilt (by me) so i dont know if that could be the problem. the carb was full of corrosion, like sand and junk. i tried to clean as best i could but im new at this and not sure. anyway hooked up remote stater and all the car does is spin, it doesnt sound like it wants to fire. I looked down the carb and gas is shooting in. I pulled the #1 plug wire to see if Im getting spark and I am. The car is at TDC with the #1 cylinder at the top of compression stroke and all the plug wire are correct at 1,5,4,2,6,3,7,8. any ideas!
Thanks
Johnny

Carb. cleaner doesn't disolve aluminum corrosion. I've been a mechanic for more years than I can count but theres orifices & passages, especially under the floor jets or main jets that just can't be gotten too. My opinion is to invest in a new carb.

600 is too big for your application, even 550 might be to big.

I hope you get her going, I'm not up to speed on the newer cars since I've been out of circulation for a few years after my heart attack but I still remember my old days in the late 60's & 70's. Good Luck!!

Rick

PS, get a carb with electric choke.

Yes but your going to put an aftermarket carb on most likely & I'm guessing a holley or edelbrock, only requires 1 ignition power wire to the electric choke, works so much nicer than a darn cable for the choke.

Ultrasonic cleaning can get the pesky crud out of those inaccessible passages.
