Mickman, Here is something to help you decide on the correct carb also. That air cleaner should be more than enough. A 289 at 6000 rpm will only flow 521cfm anyway.

Thanks for the chart, Randy.

I went with a Holley 4-bbl 600 cfm. Also a mild cam.

Got the valve covers and air cleaner in yesterday. They look awesome in raw aluminum with the open-letter COBRA on both. Will post some pics once I get the engine buttoned up and back from the builder, then I'll need to bolt on the carb and air cleaner.

well here's the oval air cleaner and it feeds enough air for a hungry 302 at 6500rpm under full load no problem. the intake (edelbrock perf rpm) is quite high on top of that a 1" spacer and a demon carb and I just about hit the hood. you shouldn't have any problems at all

see the mark at the very front of the cleaner? that's where it hit the hood under load changes

Looks good, I figure I can squeeze it in, and if not, I can get an old hood and cut a hole in it and fashion a hood scoop of some sort. Hate to give up my turn signal hood, though, hopefully it will fit with the high rise Cobra manifold I bought, and that oval Cobra air cleaner on top !

Hopefully I can get some pics posted before too long since they are almost done with my motor ! (Still gotta pick up the tranny and pay for that too.)

Thanks for all the feedback, guys.

I think you should be fine, but I hope it will fit too. I love the turn signal hood. I wish that someone made one for 65-66.

If you have the clearance, they can be found taller.

That would be cool to get a slightly taller one if room allows. I wouldn't put a KN on anything I own though.

i like the K&N filters, why not sure? ya, would love taller, but it's either taller aircleaner or having my spacer between intake and carb. both is not an option. I pick the spacer ;-)
