Default torque converter mishap

is it possible to put a torque converter for a 26 spline input shaft onto an input shaft with 24 splines? i went back to the place where i bought my torque converter and the sales guy said that is "mathematically impossible, like putting a square peg into a round hole". however, i think i may have done just that, unbeknownst to me. they sold me the wrong converter. so is it possible? now i gotta drop the tranny and evaluate the damage. think the input shaft or the converter is more likely to have the teeth/splines stripped?[:@]

i guess it would depend on the diameter of the input shaft if that's possible or not. if the diameter of the 26 is somewhat bigger then the 24, then yeah it could be possible but i you must have felt that there was something wrong, because the converter could not have been snug on the shaft i would say. did you have any problems mounting the converter or did it go the way you thought it would go? just thinking maybe there's another problem then this, before you take the trans down again...

it does seem hard for me to get a 26 spline on a 24 shaft, but i guess it would be possible.
hope you find something else instead...
good luck
