There are tons of different ways/opinions out there on what to do here. I suggest you epoxy and don't rush just to get it done in the 7 day window. Take your time, and do any filler work on top of the epoxy, then scuff what you didn't work over, then shoot it with a good primer-surfacer block that, and paint it. I like PPG DP for the epoxy, then PPG NCP271 for the surfacer. The NCP271 has some zinc in it as well to aid in rust prevention if there were any break-throughs when you sanded the epoxy and did bodywork on top of it. Whatever you do, pay attention to the Technical data sheets for whatever products you use, get something on the bare metal ASAP because the metal WILL start to rust instantly even if you don't see it right away, and spray above 60deg. Products will appear to dry at lower temps, but some of the chemical catalization will stop, and never start again, so the products may not do what they're supposed to do. As far as the metal rusting even with primer on it...that's old school when laquer primer was used, epoxies and urethanes will seal it up...hope this helps! Good luck.

OK thanks for all the great advise...Yes im in canada, bought the car from a couple in north east michigan....completely rusted hahahaha, i dont think you can find a rust free car over 10 years up here
As for all the painting tips, thats very good for later when im going to work on the body, as ive said a few times now, im working on the engine compartment, wheelwells, trunk, interior and under carrige and frame....so no filling will be done, but obviously when doing the outer body panels i will...but still great stuff, ill just skip the fill part
As for the undercoating, i wear a full face respirator doing most work anyways, with a fiber/organic vapor cartridge so shouldn't be any issue.
thanks again

i would recommend you replace as much metal before blasting as you can.

if you blast now, epoxy then do metal work, you will have exposed metal that will need to be scuffed, cleaned and resealed.

and even if you do repair as much metal as you can before blasting, there will still be some spots that blasting will expose.

and if you haven't done any metal work yet and your car is heavily rusted, you would be better served learning up the metal work stuff instead.

don't rule out filler on the undercarriage. it's nice to skim a little over those finish weld areas if you do any butt welding or have any heavy rust pitting.

He's an old school guy, nothing really wrong with it but he hasn't completely bought into the technology advances yet.

Confusing?? go read this thread https://mustangforums.com/forum/clas...-opinions.html and the links in the thread. Hopefully I complete the paint this weekend, looking forward to being a newbie on suspensions
