Unhappy 66 stang speedometer problems

I had a new speedometer installed and it's still randomly jumping and sticks up around 100 even if i'm doing 5 mph. Anyone else have similar issues or have advice? Can I repair this myself or should I take it back to the shop that supposedly fixed it in the first place? Let's just say, some dummy had wrapped the cable around the exhaust before i purchased it.

If the speedo is sticking is just about has to be the speedometer itself. The cable and the gear will only turn as fast as the transmission. If the car is only going 5mph then thats the RPM's thats going into the speedo. So for it to go to 100MPH then its the speedo. I would recommend taking it back to them and let the shop handle it.

Ok i just reread what you wrote. Was it doing this exact problem before the speedo change? If it was then i might be the cable is causing enough bounce that it maxes the speedo and it sticks. Either way the shop has taken money from you to fix it and it isnt fixed so you should take it back.

If the speedometer stick, it is defective.
