Question 5.0 Swap into a 1967 coupe?

is it hard? my uncle just let me have his 5.0 gt and I was thinking of swapping the engine and tranny into my i6 coupe, is possible/hard? I got a friend who's a mechanic, he'll probably be helping me out. thanks

there is a lot more to it than just the engine and tranny. Youll have to change out brakes, suspension, steering, and rearend, driveshaft to v8 componets as well. Is the tranny an AOD or AODE?

My car was once a i6 as well

I did it to mine and you have to replace/upgrade almost everything. Its not that hard to do, but just be prepared for a project.

Is the 5.0 GT decent? If it is, I say keep it a complete car. I hate seeing fox bodies destroyed.

Yeah if the fox body is driveable i would sell it and use the money for your car.To change your car to a v8 give this a reading http://www.mustangandfords.com/howto...ade/index.html

that article said there is an 8" V8 rearend with 5 lugs. I have a 68 coupe with an 8" 5 lug rearend but I was told that it would never work with a V8. If I only have to replace my rear brakes and put new axles in, I will do that. What is the real story here, I keep hearing conflicting stories.

My coupe has a 5 lug 8" rear end and it's a factory V8 car. A 5 lug 8" rear end is enough for a V8, a 8.8 or 9" is a good choice too.

yes, it's a big project., mine was 6cylinder as well. all driveline and most of suspension has to be replaced as otherwise you'll just shatter it in weeks.
I'd say as well, sell the foxbody as full car and use the money for the project. or sell both and start with a V8 mustang

8" 5lug is stock for Mustang with small block V8s. from factory i think only tnhe k-codes and big blocks had 9". but if you want to run 500HP through that thing and don'/t baby the rear end I wouldn't use an 8" either. anything up to 350HP/tq should be fine I think If you don't have drag radials that stick to road like glue
