Will get proper pushrod length using the check I have once my pushrods are in. Additionally, I've upgraded studs to 7/16 (rockers are 7/16 as well) and guide plates for the 7/16ths. It looks like there's good room to accomodate this in the pushrod holes, so why not go even stronger!

What kind of Redline are you using... is it the type that has the ZDDP? What thickness should I get?
I use 50wt race in the big blocks that are in the boat (huge bearing clearances) and either 5w20 or 5w30 depending on the car.

I can't recommend a weight for your motor.

To me the guide plates in the pic's kind of look like 3/8"....

I was thinking this might be an issue but i wasn't really sure enough to mention it directly, but I did elude to it.

As for the heads I'm reluctant to take them off (never done it before) - how difficult is it, do I have to replace gaskets in that case? And how do I check the valves for wear?
I've never liked the ball fulcrums, seen too many rockers roll off the side of the valve, like yours. Ford changed to a cylindrical fulcrum for the BOSS 302, 10 years later they switched to that type on the standard engine, too.

Yes, head gaskets cannot be reused. The Factory Service Manual has detailed guides.

Got the new PRW guide plates in yesterday that have the 7/16 hole for the studs and the 3/8 clearance for the pushrods. They are a tad thicker though, I trust this shouldnt cause any problems?

Noone can recommend a good oil? Living in Arkansas atm: averages around 20-50 degrees in the winter - 90+ in the summer.

I use STP Oil Treatment in conventional oil. My 289HP has nearly 200,000 on the current rebuild. My daily driver 5.0 has 155,000 miles on it, uses a quart of oil in 2500 miles.
