Default Over Heating / Transmission Fluid Leak

I seem to have a problem. Today I drove my car around quite a bit. I went to my first two classes, then drove home. Then I drove back for a third class a few hours later. After the third class I drove to the book store for around 20 mins. Then on the way home I got stick in traffic. Well my car started to overheat so i pulled it over into a business parking lot. There was transmission fluid leaking badly from where the engine and transmission are connected. Why did the overheating cause this? What needs to be fixed? thx

Bump... instead of writing the same thing.... the only difference is I was on the interstate in AZ, and now Revers doesn't work... do I have a choice or do I have to rebuild?

Can I adjust the low/reverse bands to fix the reverse problem?
A trans cooler will be used from here on out to take care of the overheating in the future... (engine didn't overheat though)
