289 Carburetor
Hey all,
While driving I kept getting a strong gas smell inside the car. After taking it to the mechanic he said I either get a new Carb or keep a fire Hydrant in the car.
I rather get the new Carb so I need help choosing a carburator for my engine. I have a 1967 289 engine
Thanks

I have a carb from a 289, needs rebuilt, but should be good. You can also go to www.holly.com and find one for your motor or www.edelbrock.com
I'd be more interested why you're getting the smell. Unless the carb is actually leaking onto the engine, replacing the carb will do nothing. Even if it is leaking, a quick rebuild will cure that for a small fraction of the cost of a new carb.
I'd be just as worried, though, about WHY you can smell it inside the car. Do you have holes in the firewall? Is your hood-to-cowl seal damaged or missing? You shouldn't be able to smell the engine at all.
