Default primer

So x-mas is around the corner and along comes some very needed leave. The wife has talked me into going home for the leave, jokes on her the mustang is back home lol.

Ok, im going to be stripping and sanding the paint off the mustang. So brings the question, what kind of primer and any certain brand yall prefer.

Also the car is going to be a resto mod so do yall think I should paint it its origenal color which is brittany blue or I was thinking a burnt orange color. I havent seen a mustang in brittany blue so im not sure of how i would like it.

Definitely epoxy primer, one coat will be sufficient if you have any body work to do. That will protect the bare metal is all you're after. Many coats are used to "build" up before painting.

I'd do two coats before body work then, then sand the whole car then another coat after that. 2 gallons "sprayable" is more than enough. Check the kit, is it 1 gallon sprayable or 2 gallons sprayable.

Sprayable meaning after its been mixed with the catalyst.

Make sure you scuff the primer before applying any filler.

BTW, epoxy is the only way to go.

some epoxy primers you do not have to scuff them within a certain time window the filler will bite without sanding so you dont have to remove your protective layer of epoxy

wow. i'm going to end up using 3 gallons on one car (i also epoxy most of the parts as well before topcoating).

since restomod means restoration plus modifications, then you will probably also be spraying epoxy on the undercarriage, cabin area, engine compartment, underside of panels, etc, at least one time if not twice.

catalyst once opened does have a limited shelf life which nobody can really define...

i would recommend a local paint supplier. PPG offers many budget options.
