And you, with the flat black underside, you too.

Sand it smooth, paint it body color. Might take a whole Saturday. Afterward, onlookers will go "Ohh, ahh".

Goooooood. I'm glad I got a reaction out of someone who is vocal and passionate about these cars. Not that undercoating is a bad idea, I think it depends on the car. As for my car, I would be doing an injustice by not properly finishing the underhood area with the task of sanding, primering and painting. I feel like I must keep up the quality and throwing undercoating on there, is just a step below of what I want to do.

If you are okay with the textured finish, how about some U-Pol Raptor? If you want a smooth finish, you are going to have to sand like 2+2GT suggested. Then again I've seen people just shoot the unfinished fiberglass with flat black and it cleans it up pretty nicely.

Yeah, that's what I currently have, just some paint over the rough fiberglass. I will probably end up sanding and painting. I mean, it looks o-kay now but I'm looking for that one up level of detail. Which means, BIG SIGH, sanding.

Unique Performance used Lizard Skin and Classic Recreations uses Raptor on the under side of their hoods when they do the engine bays textured.

I think that actually looks really good. From those pics, I think I like the CR finish best. Is it a big deal to use these products on the underhood area?

I'm not sure UP would be a good reference. Most of the cars they sold were never built.

We went with the U-Pol Raptor because we also liked the finish better than that of Lizard Skin. While the Lizard skin is supposed to have better sound and heat dampening properties, it is more expensive and more complex to spray. Heat should not be an issue as the Raptor is a urethane. I think the Classic Recreations engine bay looks great. Here is one more:
