Default Manual Gearbox

Hi to you all .

A friend of mine got a 1969 mustang with a windsor engine and an automatic gearbox , now he looking to put up a manual gearbox , because here in Ireland the parts are a bit scarse to say the least , he's wondering if the European Sierra model gearbox can be suitable for the transplant or any other alternative .
Any detail that you need to know just ask .

Thank you for your help.

All the best .

Thank you Andrew and Thank you Model , i much apprecciate your help .

Andrew i believe so myself , i just was asking around if someone had a way around it , but obviously not .

Infact i was telling him that the best thing to do, is to contact someone in the States and see if there possibility to purchase a Gearbox and be sent over , i do not know if is convenient for him but i think is the best solution , otherwise can keep the auto that after all works perfectly .

Talk to you later

Many thanks for your help so far.

I saw my friend yesterday and he and his mechanic are going ahead with their idea to try on the SierraConswort gearbox , they are stating that there is an AC cobra kit car sold with a chevy engine and the Gearbox mentioned above , therefore they are thinking that if it mount on a chevy engine this should well mount on a Ford ...

Does anyone have done such of a modification ??? or know about it ?

Ciao

Well sure, that's logical, any gearbox that mounts on a Land Rover should fit on a Jaguar, no problem. Are they serious?

Yes they are , my point is to pushing them to find a purpose make gearbox for that car , i don't even know if they 'd been able to find the gearbox in question , i doubt that and if easy to understand why , I mean about to find an used one , according to them if doesn't fit for sure there is a modification kit available .
I will pass over all the tips from here and they 'll decide .

Another think , i have been told that the car doens't do more than 10 miles per gallon !!!! in a normal use, i find it a bit heavy how many miles per gallon shoult it do ???

Many thanks

OK, all sarcasm aside, you will not be able to mount a Chevy transmission on a Ford engine without some major custom work. Any 86-92-ish Mustang 5.0 5-speed will install pretty easily, with a few adapters, and the stock clutch linkage for your year. IIRC, I sent you a link to get this done.

As for mileage, my 289 4V got 15-21, my 289HP 14-18, and my 200 got 18-25, all with stock manual transmissions. With a T5, you should easily get over 20 on the highway.
