Default door locks?

the car is a 66 coupe and the door locks suck

-only the passenger side works, but only if the door is shut and locked from the inside

-the keys fits in the hole but does not turn

-if you lock the door while its open and shut it, it unlocks upon closing

-ive tried locking the door with the button pushed in and closing at the same time and it still unlocks

do you guys have any advice?

Sounds like the lock is shot.

Yep. Or the door has been replaced, and the lazy-butt bodyshop left the incorrect lock in the door. Happens a lot. Might take them 10 minutes to fix, so they let you suffer for years.

This is normal. The 64-66 Mustang was designed to make it impossible to lock your keys in the car.

Because it's not supposed to. This is normal. You must lock 64-66 Mustangs with the key, from the outside.

Yeah, get a new key/lock set. Under $30, and you'll have properly matched doors and ignition. Oh, and stop trying to lock your keys in the car.
