I am trying to decide between the tri-y or the hipo manifolds myself to go with the Shelby side exits. Im just looking for cheaper way to make the car sound like it should, stock engine or not it will sound better!

thats one of the reasons i wanted headers for the sound, but i was reading that the price can waaaay outweigh the benefits on a stock engine.

anyone have a good idea for making the car sound better?

Sure.
Pull heads and port them, cheap.
install big valves, pretty cheap.
Stronger valve springs, cheap.
Stronger non-roller rockers, pretty cheap.
Verify all clearances, free.
HiPo exhaust manifolds.
Rejet carb, cheap.

Engine will pass for stock and will have more kick for cheap.

Install 2 1/2" dual exhaust w/ H-pipe for now.

Go to local muffler shop that services the hot rodder crowd and ask for generic muffler w/ sound you are seeking.

My local shop let me try 2 mufflers for free.

so i shouldnt buy a bundle like this:
http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ite...asp?T1=EK22+01

are there ones available that dont include mufflers?

think i found a good one

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ite...sp?T1=EK10A+01

know anyone running these so i could hear it?
seems like it should fit no problem.
is it worth buying the dual exhaust back piece or an i make my own from the single exhaust back piece?
EDIT: on second look the previous dual exhaust kit appears kind of generic.

Stock mustang GT came w/ HiPo exhaust manifold and dual exhaust.

I like the sound. Subjective of course.

67 289 4 bbl mustang is 225@4800; torque is 305@3200

Do not buy a pre-bent exhaust system; source= personal experience.

Ask around for the good local muffler shop.
Much cheaper and much better fit and no leaky slip joints.

Super cheap and easy 289 mod:

Install stronger springs to allow higher RPM w/o valve float.
Install HiPo exhaust manifold cause stock manifold flows poorly.
Rejet carb.
