Default 1965 6 Cylinder Rally Pac

Does anyone know if/when Scott Drake or anyone else will repop a 1965 high profile Rally Pac for the 6 cylinder? At first I wanted to get an OEM 6K RPM V8 version. But, I haven't found one in good enough condition to spend the money modifying the tach, upgrading the clock, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help in advance...

You're probably better off finding an original 6K Rally Pac for an 8-cyl and having someone like Gary the Tach Man convert it to work for a 6-cyl. I did that a few years ago. I restored the housing and clock on my own and it has been working fine for 3 years. Interestingly, not long after I restored this Rally Pac, I found a 6-cyl high profile Rally Pac on ebay. I purchased it and keep it as a back up in case my converted tach fails. I did see a 6-cyl Rally Pac on ebay a few months ago, so they're still out there. If you decide to restore/convert an original 8-cyl Rally Pac, I have some information that will be helpful to you, especially in the re-painting of the housing and eyebrows.

Thanks for the feedback! It's too bad that Gary the Tachman won't touch repops. I'll keep looking for a 1965 OEM High Profile Rally Pak. I've been seing decent ones for $300-$400 and recently fell a little short in an auction for a V8 version. I understand that converting the Tach is about $150 and the Quartz clock upgrade is around $100, plus possibly lenses, harness and other hardware. So, I may have close to $600 into it when all is said and done. Sound about right?

Unfortunately, if you want a high profile Rally Pac in your 65 6-cyl, you are doomed to pay more than most. It does bug me that there are still no repro 6-cyl high profile Rally Pac's available. You might be able to pull this off spending less than $600, if you manage to get your hands on an original Rally Pac in poor shape (bad paint, no wiring, dead clock/tach). The repainting you can do yourself and it will turn out really nice (I can provide you with additional details on this), if you are careful. I would purchase the quartz upgrade for the clock from "Insturment Services." I have provided a link for. They make these kits and sell them to Mustang vendors. I saved around $25 purchasing the kit directly from them. The wiring and lenses aren't that expensive. With my Rally Pac, I didn't even have to replace the lenses. I used that Maguier's headlight lense defogger on them and they turned out nice. With an original Rally Pac, you have the added benefit of wiring it directly to connections that are already available on your under dash harness. I wound up spending something around $500 to restore my Rally Pac and it really looks nice in my convertible. I also have copied a link for an "OEM" Rally Pac I just saw on ebay with a buy it now price of $299. If true, this would be a good buy.

Good luck!

Yea, I saw that RP on eBay too. It looks like a great deal, but that is a repost after it didn't sell the last time. I actually emailed the seller with a couple of questions during the last posting period, but never got a response. I also think that what is scaring people is that the tach screws on the back have been changed so you don't know what you're in for. Maybe there's a 6cyl tach in there now (yea right)! There's an All Ford Swap Meet in Columbus in April that I usually go to. However, you rarely find what you need, but end up spending a lot of money on stuff you don't. I did see that Scott Drake sells both lenses for $20. Thanks for keeping an eye out!!! I'll let you know what I end up doing.

I looked closer at the pictures of the RP on eBay. The tach has neither "FORD" or "MUSTANG" at the top of the face. From what I've read, "FORD" at the top is a dealer installed RP, where "MUSTANG" at the top is a factory installed RP. I'm looking for "MUSTANG". That's probably another reason it hasn't be bought yet...
