He means put a paperclip or some other piece of metal in the plug to complete the connection between the two wires leading into the plug, and see if that makes the brake lights come on.

I had the exact same problem with my 65. When the headlights were OFF, my brakelights worked fine. When my headlights were ON, it was as if the brakelights were on all the time. Also the blinkers did not work when the headlights were ON.

I was prepared to take it to an electrical place who quoted me $400 to diagnose and hopefully repair the electricals. I held back on that idea, and bought a headlight switch instead...hopefully that would fix the problem.

Before I put on the switch, I saw my right brakelight had burned out (again). When I replaced it, I saw the bulb was loose in the light socket. I took the light out and looked inside the socket. The connections looked like a rats nest. I got a needle-nose pliers and tried to clean it up a bit so the connections would be better. I also got some pliers and clamped down on the socket a bit so it would hold the lightbulb tighter.

That fixed ALL the problems I was having with my brake lights, blinkers...EVERYTHING! It cost me nothing to fix.

I'm noy saying this will fix your problem, but you never know.

Good luck.
