Default Rear end question

Hi guys, I recently bought a 9" rear that was missing a center section. It originally came out of a 70 mach 1. I have a 9" laying around but it is from a 76 t-bird, and I know nothing about it. All I do know about either rear is that the mach 1 rear has 28 spline axles and the t-bird is 31. My question is if I could use the center section from the t-bird in the mach 1 housing just by changing the gears.

too late to follow your question.
you can use any 9" pumpkin in any 9" axle housing if axle is correct length.
axle bearings come in different flavors.
non-tapered axles can be cut and re-splined.

So I could cut and respline the axles from the t-bird and put those and the center section into the other housing? Could I just swap over the center section using the 28 spline axles since they are already the correct length?

The 3rd member won't work unless you change the diff in it to a 28 spline.Or look on curries website for 31 spline axles for that housing you have.
