Default Bell Housing, T5 swap question...

Hey everyone,

I want to do a T5 swap on my 65 mustang. Right now it has a 4speed top loader with a 289. Eventually I will be putting a late model 347 stroker in the car so I am wondering if I should go ahead and change bell housings so that I don't waste money on the 289 T5 spacer etc? Will a late 302 bell housing hook to my 289 block until I get the funds to install the 347? Thanks in advance!

You can use the fulcrum adapter to make the T5 bell work with your current clutch setup.

Depends on what you see down the road with your clutch mechanism. If you plan on keeping your mechanical Z bar you can either use the adapter and the old BH or like 2+2 said use the newer BH and a fulcrum adapter.

If your linkage works smoothly now I might try the plate adapter. If your linkage is a mess like mine was, go with a clutch cable or hydraulic clutch.

I have a T5 plate adapter. Give you a spectacular deal on it.

So the old 289 BH will work with a late 302 block if I decide to build a 347?

Sure. The 1965-2011 Ford smallblock all use the same 6-bolt bellhousing pattern.

I appreciate the info Scootchu. Will keep your adapter in mind but I have been planning to buy a complete kit. Thanks again!
