Default 5spd factory console

I am doing the 5spd conversion on my 67 in a month or so, just trying to get everything together so I don't have to run around while I'm doing it. I have the factory console in my car with the 3spd auto. I found a chrome plate for a 4spd on the internet, and I was wondering if I can use this on my auto console. If I have to cut the console a little to make it work, I will be ok with that. Just want to make sure it will work before I spend close to $150 for it. Keep in mind I want to keep it as close to original as possible. If anyone has done this or anything else with the factory console, please post pics as well, thank you.

If you use the stock T5 shifter and 64-68 shift boot, you should have no trouble using the stock 67 manual console insert.

Ya, I am using the stock shifter assembly, and I ordered a hurst shifter rod & ball from modern driveline. Just wondering if I should order a shifter boot as well. Wanted to make sure that that piece would work first.

Is the manual plate the same size as the automatic plate?

The console is the same between a standard and automatic trans, only the plate is different. So the 4 speed plate will fit on your console with no modifications. I used a Mr Gasket boot on my 5 speed conversion and it worked fine with the Hurst shifter and the console. Mine has a Cougar Pad on it but it is the same console.

Where did you get your pad from? I currently have the pad on mine for the automatic, but mine is green.

I got my pad from ebay and if I remember correctly it was almost $200. I was doing this project before they were repoping the 4 speed shifter plates. The shifter plates I could find were really expensive and not in very good shape. I cut my auto shifter plate and layed the pad over that. I'm happy with the result. You just don't see that many with the pad on them. I'm pretty sure that is a 67/8 Cougar pad. The 68 Mustang console pad is as ugly as the 68 Mustang steering wheel.

Um, the 67 Mustang console had no pad, so what console do you have?
