Default 1966 Carburetor Convert

So what's up guys think I should convert my current carb which is a 2 barrel to a 4? It's giving me problems as is... Choke isn't functional so it's a mission and a half to start when it's cold.... And if I were to buy a new carb would it be worth converting over to a 4 barrel.

What's wrong with the choke? These are easy to fix, way easier than 4V conversion.

not worth it. stick with the 2 barrel. if your going to spend the money for a new 4 barrel then just buy a rebuilt 2 barrel.

Choak is dead. It's not functional at all nor is my current carb. And I figure I might as well switch over to a 4 barrel considering I have a eldebrock intake that's not being used.

Started off on the wrong foot I forgot to mention the carb isn't working right now in the beginning.

likely, you'll loose oem 289 low end by adding performer intake and 4bbl 600cfm carb. won't gain much top end w/o mods.

2 bbl 289 holds its own to roughly 4000; oem 4 bbl 289 gains about 25 horses at 4800 rpm.

what engine?
what intake?
what carb?
what heads?
what exhaust?
what cam?

It's a 289 of course and I have a 2121 eldebrock intake thinking about the holley 600 four barrel. and it'll have 2.25 inch dual exhaust (with h pipe) and flow master mufflers.

Which all of these new carbs have electronic chokes how do those work for everyone? I figured if I'm going to be spending x amount of money on a rebuilt 2 barrel I could spend just a bit more and get a four barrel and use my intake.

600cfm carb and eddy performer will out flow oem heads; not likely a performance upgrade unless heads and headers are used. keep in mind oem 289 risky above 5000.

if it has to be cheap and you want to upgrade to 4bbl, you could always check out the summit 600cfm. sites like summit etc will tell you if the carb will have a choke or not. and if, then if electrical etc.

However I'd say the same thing. open a post, explain the problems you have and we can try and help you sort it out.

Yeah I suppose so I only figured since my carb now is dead. It's been rebuilt too and still not functioning properly I might as well bump to a four I mean I will be adding things as I go. Just guess I need to think about it.
