i'm still using alt from I6 200 on my 351w.
don't remember how many decades old it is.

if you go 1-wire, you won't need it (as far as I know, could be wrong theough)
and no harm to have a spare regulator in your pocket. they cost like 12$ and are replaced with two easy small bolts and a connector. takes the good side of 3 and a half minutes.
