Default CJ Deluxe Door Panels

Has anyone here ordered the '70 deluxe door panels from CJ's? Got a little extra cash and am finally going to replace my cracked panels. I'll need to get the white and dye them because I have the medium ivy interior, just wondering if the quality is good and how hard they are to dye (gonna get some dye from CJ's also).

On an unrelated note, want to change my 3.00 8" gears to 3.55 (w/ a C4) and found some on ebay for around $650 - $700 (whole 3rd member). Are these any good and is that too much gear for some highway and some drag strip (mild 302)? I'll start a new thread for that one if it is too much.

3.5 is a little steep for highway driving with no overdrive. I got my door pannels off ebay. Cant remember the seller though. They are nice quality. You will have to paint the door cups though. If you dont have original. Door pannels are pricey but way worth it to get the delux ones.

Well, CJ doesn't make them. If I knew where they got them, I probably have used them. I would use a dark color for what you propose. The slightest scratch on a green-over-white panel will stand out like a neon sign. Get blue ones and dye them green.

The factory-equipped rear in cars with the 289HP engine was 3.50:1. Some were optionally equipped with a 4.11:1, which is what my parent's K code Mustang had. It was driven daily. I personally had a 3.50:1 diff in my 66 for about 10 years, drove it every day, and on weekend and vacation trips.

Thanks for the tip on color. I guess I thought it would be easier to dye the white. I have never dyed parts before so I didn't realize it could scratch off. They don't have them in blue, only black, ginger and white - would I be able to get the right color if I started with black?

Yeah, you could use black, but I suggested blue because Glazier/Nolan lists blue in their catalog.

I was thinking black would be best, because if it got stratched it wouldn't look weird.

Wanted to give an update for anyone who is interested. I ordered the door panels through CJ's during their 15% off sale. I ordered the white because CJ's told me the black would be VERY difficult to dye medium ivy. They agreed that the dye could flake or scratch and recommended I clean the vinyl thoroughly before trying to dye it.

I got the panels yesterday, they came in a box from dashes direct. I am really impressed with the quality so far, I'll try to test fit them this weekend and let you all know how they fit.

I need some advice on dye though. I didn't order it through CJ's because I wasn't sure of the quality, I have seen some that say they have a "flex agent" and others don't say. I need to be able to get it in medium ivy metallic so I think my options are limited. If anybody has had good luck with a certain brand please let me know.

Strange, I dyed a set of black 71 panels to blue about a year ago, and they came out perfectly. You can get adhesion promoter from Ford and aftermarket. Drake has vinyl dye in rattle cans, although I used a quart with the flex agent added on those 71 panels.
