Default Horn problems

I am having a problem getting my horn to work in my 65. I have a Grant steering wheel and have tried 3 new horn kits but they all short out, sparks fly and the horn won't stop blowing. I also bought a kit from Auto Zone. Same problem. This kit is from NPD and they only make one kit for it. I finally took it to a friend of mine who runs a garage and was told I needed a split contact. I cannot find anything like this. Any ideas or is he nuts?

well i have no idea what a split contact is, but I'm wondering how many more posts I'll have to read that conatin "grant" and "horn problem"

is your car 65 or 641/2?
when you remove the horn button, do you have two wires coming out that should be connected or only a single one?

Which Grant steering wheel do you have? If its what I think it is, they are notorious for having that issue. I would dump the Grant wheel.

Good point Kalli. The 64.5 is different.

It is a 65. I will take a look and let you know about the wires, but I just remember one. The Grant model from NPD is 3600-10B-Classic series 15" with horn kit 3600-11K to be used with alt. I just got a new installation kit today to try. If this doesn't work, what's another wheel to switch to? I'll let you know about the wires after I get home. I gave up the last time I tried to fix it before finding out about this forum and some people to help. The hot wire is just taped now.

How many slip rings (contact rings) are there on the back of the wheel mounting hubs they keep sending you?
