electronic Speed"O"

electronic Speed"O"
I picked up a full set of Auto Meter "Sport Comp" Gauges. I have an OEM 289 dropped in a used T-5 from a 86 - 89 (dont remember). Using the original sender from the T5, hooked up the speed "o" but cant calibrate. Had my wife follow me in her Hy-bred. After hitting the designated 2 miles and setting the speed"o" back to normal i showed doing 60, she never got over 35 and i never got out of 3rd. Speed "O" jumped when shifting gears.
If i order the correct sender form Auto Meter will this help?. I am thinking the sender from the T5 is dot sending the right PPM's.
Any help would be great.

I'd make sure you did the calibration correctly. I had to read the instructions a couple of times to make sure I got it right. I had a friend who had a similar problem on his car and it was a bad ground. Since you said the speed jumped when you shifted gears, I'd check that.

I think maybe the hybrid might be producing some EMP's causing your difficulties...
Ok, really, I would start with your wiring, making sure all of your connections and grounds are tip top, other than that try it again, and again and maybe you will find success.
I know I have seen some stock spedo wires that are "twisted pair", I am sure to eliminate "cross contamination" from other nearby wires, if all else fails, you might try twisting your sender to gauge wires together along their entire length.
I have usually had good luck with electric speedos hooked to stock senders, not so much luck with the "add on" senders, so I would try to make the stock sender work for a reasonable time before switching out.

going to double check the ground and wiring then give another shot.
Jmd, thanks for the tip on the senders, right now i have some cheap mechanical in, so i will try and reuse the stock senders first.
one more question, where can i find the small light sockets for the blinkers that are not self grounding. I have have a temporary ground in them now, works fine except when the headlights are on.

Ok you where right bad ground from the speed "O" sensor.
JMD, the original oil and water sensors just peg out, once the motor cools i will swap them with the Auto Meter sensors. then trace down the fuel gauge problem, woks good with a jumper to the sender just mot in the harness.
