Default Opinions Please (tail light trim)

So i removed everything off the back end and starting on the front t get ready for paint. My tail light trim pieces are pretty beat up, the chrome is pretty much peeled off on most of them. How would flat black tail light trim look on a Lime Gold coupe w/black vinyl top? ill have pics up of current condition.

I think it would look good because of the black vinyl top, but I would go with Satin Black finish not Flat Black IMO.

I've seen it done. I think it looks good. Have also seen some guys black out the whole tail light panel.

Every high school kid in America did that back in the 70's. I didn't like it then, either. I see traces of paint on yours. Should be all chrome. Clean with a solvent, polish with Brasso, and clearcoat. It'll look a lot better than black paint.

Why does it look black? The base metal is zinc, which is silver-gray.

not sure, but chrome was flaking off and there was black under it. i started painting them black and i think they look great on a light colored car, going to layer up on the spray paint (semi gloss) and put some clear over it.

the metal was pretty pitted so it wont come out super smooth but only noticeable if your within 2 feet.

I'm considering doing the same with my chrome. I've got a decent set of chrome bezels but the theme of my car is light ford blue with black stripes so I think matching black trim would look good. Maybe even my bumpers (considering my bumpers aren't in good shape either).
