Default 1968 & 429 cobra jet problem!!

My father is in the middle of building his 1968 bullitt clone, and he just finished the motor and went to go put it in the car and it doesnt fit. He tried 2 sets of motor mounts and neither seem to work. The engine does fit in the car but with 1 set of mounts it sat to high and the other set it sat to low. I have read about people putting 429's in 67-68's but we need the right motor mounts in order to do so. Its a tight as fit but it 100% does fit. Any suggestions? Have custom mounts made?

You need special conversion motor mounts. IIRC, they are based on the BOSS 429 mounts.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will talk to him tomorrow and see what he says. I will also post back on the exact mounts he tried.

If I was going to put a 429 in a 68 I would just make the mounts, If I wanted some already made mounts I would look at the 69 Boss 429 and the 71 429 mounts,

Hmmm… The BOSS 429 mounts would be perfect, but cost a lot. The 71 mounts aren't even close.

Neither is a 429 in a 68, I would just make them fit. Cut the part that bolts to the block off and adapt it to the part that bolts to the frame.

Actually, the 68 engine compartment, and method of attaching the motor mounts, is virtually identical 67-70. The Mustang was drastically changed in 71, with the addition of a welded-in crossmember below the engine. The 71 frame bracket for the mount was so different, it may as well be a Camaro part.
