I did the swap about a year ago. Used a 93 aod and block plate. I used my original FMX flexplate, which you will need or you will have to find a 28oz balanced new aod flexplate from a parts store. You need the lokar tv cable and carb adapter bracket along with the tv cable corrector linkage to adapt the cable to the carb so that it doesnt pull out of adjustment at full throttle. I have hooker headers that just barely touch the pan and i had to have my pipes reworked because of the aftermarket crossmember. Get crafty with some steel plate and your old crossmember and make your own mount. It will be cheaper and your exhaust will fit if you just modify your old crossmember. I adjusted the tv cable as suggested before. Just barely any preload so that when the trottle moves, your cable moves the arm on the trans. You will also need to flip over the linkage on the trans with the pan taken off so that your shift selectoor will work. I modifies my old shift linkage with a few bends and tacking the shifter pin and bushings onto the bolt end and flipping the linkage over. Youll see what i mean when you get a good look at the linkage ends. Or just but a premade linkage for $100... that was out of the question for me..

My stock drivshaft didnt fit, but i changed the rear end with a shorter yoke so it fit right in. Just put in some 3.70 gears and it runs nicely on the highway and is great off the line. I have already noticed the difference in gas usage. It doesnt chug down off the line now, as it did with the 3.0 gear. Its more bright and peppy.. lol. Check out 69stang.com in the how to section.. or projects section. There is a lot of good info on the swap.

And i suggest finding as many parts as you can on ebay. Its way cheaper even for new stuff.

The AOD has 1, 2, 3, converter lock-up, and OD. There is a clutch inthe transmission that lockes the lock-up shaft so input comes from the flexplate driven side of the converter intead of through the normal input shaftfrom the turbine of the converter.

Partly right, but there is no converter "lockup" to speak of. That would be a fifth shift and there is no such thing in an AOD. Again, 1 and 2 are turbine driven, 3 and 4 are direct drive at flywheel speed. No other shifts are involved. 3 is direct drive and 4 is overdrive. The transmission actually has 2 input shafts.

Now that you mention it, I do remember having to line up two sets of splines.
