Default Thermostat housing

I need to replace my thermostat house with a 90 pointing up (needed for the March kit). I notice my intake has a hole for this, but what is the extra port for on the housing (looks like 5/8"), see pic below. Also, while I have your attention, should I run a 185 degree T state in my 302? This is the first motor I've built that had a water pump.

It is for the bypass hose that goes down to the water pump. All small block fords run them. It requires a hose with a prebent 90 degree bend in it.

Just for the record I run 195° t-stats in my 302 and 289 and have no problems. You don't want it to run cool.

Thanks guys. Like I said, this is the first motor that has had either a t-stat or a water pump. My big blocks have been for the boat, they are sea water cooled so we just run a cross over that will push the water into the blocks. Also don't run a t-stat, with the heavy load I've never had an issue getting them hot.

Looks like another summit order going in today
