Question Dash PAD vs dash CAP

I've seen some dash CAPS on the internet that supposedly fit over your existing dash PAD. If the dash PAD is warped it looks like the dash CAP would be warped also. Anyone have any experience with these CAPS?

Think their mostly used for cars such as the 69 and 70 mustangs where to buy a new dash pad is about 350+. A 69 mustang we restored had one on it when we got it they dont look good on 69 and 70 as you can clearly tell their on top of the dash. with dash pads for 64-68 being so cheap i would never use one. But on a 69-70 i might for a quick fix tell one could afford the dash. And to answer your question better the cap is like a harder yet still flexable plastic so if you pad is warped i dont think you would see it as it is ridged enough to not form to the warped part. So dash pad replaces the dash you have in your car completely and a dash cap fits over your existing dash pad.

I didn't know that they were so expensive for the 69/70
but a cap on a dashpad sounds to me like well there's a stain on the carpet, let's put another one on top of it ...

does anyone know where to find the plush dash pads? I spent money on an original tooling and it was nothing like the one I took out. My original felt like it had some type of padding underneath.

I just had a basic coupe but the original owner jimmy rigged deluxe door panels with wood glue along with the center roof console so im not sure if the dash pad was even from a mustang and not a cougar but in sure the pads would have been the same both.

Any takers on this one? I would love to have a plush dash pad to match my seats

The cap is stiff plastic, so it does not take the warped shape of the pad. They look good in photos, because you can't see the cheesy plastic surface or the edges. They look cheap and superficial in person.

Definitley replace the pad. In the long run it looks better and you won't be happy with the cap.

I always say if the car looks like crap use a cap, if the the cars an Ace then replace.

Your Granny would use the cap.
