If you get a used one on ebaY or a flea market somewhere, and rebuild it, you should be able to do better than that brand-new reproduction.

But don't think of it as a "one barrel". They don't sell carbs by the barrel. If they did, a 1V would be $200, a 2V would be $400, and a 4V would be $800. Er something.

Think of it as "the-best-carb-ever-made-for-a-1V-intake-and-oh-by-the-way-they-stopped-making-them-42-years-ago-so-you-have-to-buy-what-you-can-find-and-make-it-right-for-your-45-year-old-car-or-your-screwed-and-you-have-to-keep-driving-that-crap-Holley-replacement".

You could call around. Last time I was at Glazier/Nolan they had a box of 1V carbs. Dunno what for.

You have to use an adapter on the carb to use the original air cleaner. They are plastic an reduce the neck of the holley down to fit the air cleaner.

I also had a Holley 1940. Bought a concours restoration Autolite 1100 from Pony Carburetors and it DRAMATICALLY improved my performance. They make an adjustment to the carb that gets rid of the problems the carb had back in the day. They also send you a CD with step-by-step installation, tuning, troubleshooting info.
