You seem to be in a unique situation. I bet most men on this forum escape to the garage to work on the Mustang for some quality "alone" time. That said, I'd be thankful for the help you did get, and keep on going.

My wife isn't a car person either, but she'll help every once in a while. Other than that, the garage is my escape from wife and kids.

As for more hands, I keep a pile of different types of wood blocks, straps, clamps etc... to help mock stuff into place. And duct tape too for holding lighter panels in place.

If she got you through the body work and sanding I'd quit while you're ahead, my wife wouldn't have helped with that. I'm with the rest, the garage is my escape and my car is my hobby, I enjoy working on it alone. If I can't get my hands in a spot my 12yo comes out and helps. I also use tie down straps, wood clamps, tape, etc. when I need more than 2 hands.

i love working on the car by myself, but usually worked on them with my brother during high school. throughout college i worked on them by myself and still loved it. if i really needed the help i grabbed my dad. my girlfriend now loves working on cars. shes never done it before and loves learning. i guess i lucked out. i dont mind it. extra hand in the garage is an extra hand. plus im spending more time with the girl i love. what could be better. what scares me though, is i'm about to graduate college after this coming year, and i will not have any time at all to work on my cars. i have little to none now, but med school is another beast. it scares me because cars have kept me stress free and sane. without them i need to find something to tinker with fast.

I think you and I have the unfair advantage of young age.

Perhaps if you involve her more she will be more willing to do the grunt work. By that I mean that if you explain what and why you are doing what you are doing, it will become a learning experience for her. This would only work if she is interested of course, but sometimes just the effort to include the wife/girl-friend goes a long way.
