That means the radio IS NOT grounded, it is grounding through the antenna cable.
There is no telling what happened to it when it was "hunting" for a ground....
This may seem like a very stupid question, but is the ground from the antenna sufficient enough to make the stereo run properly? If no, then I think that may be the answer to the problem.
We'll also pick up some speakers this weekend to see if the lack of speakers is the reason behind it not working.
Pull out the speakers and try it, I bet one connection is touching metal and grounding out.
I didn't think about that, thanks for the tip, I will check it out.

The lack of ground could be your issue, but most antennas are are grounded right to the radio case, meaning that a good ground wire MIGHT help your issue, but I don't think it will work for you at this point...
EDIT: NEVERMIND!!!! Right when we were ready to give up, it decided to work. No idea how. Clueless. But it's working. Now onto the rest of the interior
using 2 or 4 speakers would have no effect on the radio working or not. If the radio NEEDS the antenna to turn on, it had a weak ground or the ground on the circuit board isnt good.
