Default 68 AC question

I bought a 68 Fastback GT about a month ago and its it great shape, just needs put back together. The guy said it had AC in it but all i can find with the many parts I have is the compressor. The dash controlls wqas not for an ac car nor can i find any of the vents that it should have had. My question is what can i look for to see if it was an ac car. were there other ac options in 68? It was produced early in january 68. The Marti report confirms the GT equipment group but says nothing about AC...should it??

The quickest way I can think of is to take a look at the firewall where the heater hose enters. In the non-A/C cars the hoses just 'pop' through the firewall. In the A/C cars there is a special 2 piece plate and grommet that fits over a large hole in the firewall where the heater hoses and A/C lines go. Here is a picture of a A/C car's firewall:

Hope this helps

19stang68 has the right idea. I would check that but if the Marti repost doesn't list it as an a/C car then I would say it is not an A/C car. You shold also have holes in the radiator support for the condenser tubes to pass through.

Thanks guys, I have 2 holes that run up and down next to the heater assembly hole but nothing like the picture. So would he have had an under dash unit??

Underdash units would not be stock for that year. It is possible it had a Monkey Wards unit at one time but it would still have extra holes in the fire wall to get the hoses to the evaporator unit.

Under dash would, at best, be dealer installed Ford. There was no factory under-dash unit in 68.
