Default leaf spring relocation on 67 stang

I've read alot about mini tubs, Triangulated 4-link suspensions, and many others that are simular, to get the fattest tire possible in there without altering the interior. I looked up mopars spring reloction kit, but the frame on the mustang is way to narrow to do the same. But what if I put the spring on the inside of the frame. Just make some new leaf mounts! Would it make any differance on the handling with the leafs that far in? I have a 9" I'm getting cut any way,so it's not like an excessive amount of distance from the end of the axle. Just throwing another option out there.

The largest tire I can possibly fit in that wheelwell. I know, why? Because I love the look of modern day hot wheels car from a classic. It was my first car. I've owned it since 1985 and it was my grandfathers before that. I'm not scared to cut and weld. Played around alot back in the day, and I 'm ready to start back up. Sorry for rambling.

Come on now...answer the question....what size tire do you want?

275? 295? 305? 315? More?

What size motor is in the car?

Tire size is alittle confussing! Different brands with the same size isn't the same size. I need to talk to a knowledgeable tire man or woman!

What.....size.....tire....do....you.....want.

Keep in mind that you can fit 265/275 rear without modification(maybe a fender lip roll). Anything larger than that is actually hard to get and very expensive.

And do you even NEED tires that large, it depends a lot on engine power and vehicle use.

And just relocating suspension components can get you into a lot of trouble if you don't know what you're doing. If things aren't set up right from a structural standpoint you can move forces and loads all over the place and rip things up.

315/35/20 or 335/35/20 sorry a out that! I think I want to do it more for the look than anything else. You gotta admit, it looks cool as hell with some fat tires out back.

315/35/20 is 28 inches tall and $500 a pop...that's quite the choice and technically that is too tall for the classic mustang (I assume you know since you are talking about tubs and a crap load of other things that will be changing IMO to run them)

However I would expect you to be able to put a 315 35 18 on the car with only mini tubs a rolled flat fender lip and perfect backspacing (aka stock placement on leaf springs)....there is however...not a lot of choices in tire in that size.

If you are willing to go to a 295 35 18 or (maybe a 315 35 17) you are looking at almost a bolt and go tire combo with a rolled fender lip and if it rubs on the inside...manual deformation of the housing or a mini-tubs.

If you stuff a 325 in the back and run with a 235 up front you will have a car with terrible handling characteristics IMO.

As for the fat look overall...I'm all for it....however if you are going to go to the trouble to put a 325 in the back you should lose the leafs and go with a 3 link (my preference) or someother non-leaf style. It would probably be less work in the long run and will perform ALOT better than leafs that have been inboarded.

On to the motor...what have you done to your motor to make it have 500 HP?

Ok, well it's not that easy to explain. But ear goes. This guy at my wifes work messes around with cars mostly big blocks and higher end set ups, bought a 69 fastback with this 302 and 5 speed in it, and he's taking the motor and tranny out so he can put a big block and auto magic in it. Asks me if I'm interested in it for my mustang. Good price but I just had to many other projects going to start another. My wife ended Getting it for me anyway for Christmas. So the guy that originally owned the car was building it for some road coarse race ran out of money lost his job had to sell. He had the motor built and supposedly had alittle over 500 hp. I haven't gotten the paper work yet on everything that was done but as soon as I do, i'll post it up . Ya feelin stupid for not getting it already but for the price I got it for it really didn't matter to me. So any way, back to the leaf spring relocation deal. I thought about what you said and went out to the garage last night and did some measuring. I would still consider doing it but I would have to move the spring perches in 5 INS" on both sides and think that would have been alittle to much. 2ins" yea but not 5. So I'm back to coil spring set up. Can't get me on the tires tho. I found a place today that has some used 335's that I can use for mock up. Hopefully by this weekend I'll get it sitting in there.
