68 Fold down sets question
I have a 68 fastback GT (factory) that i bought in peices. I'm putting together the interior but i dont see the major components of the fold down seat. The guy I bought it from kept everything from what i can tell thus far. My question is i know not all fastbacks in 68 had the fold down option but I cant find any assembly instructions. Not even the Jim Osborn manuals have it.
It does have the fold down section but without the rest of the complete set what is the point. Does it still fold down. I did also see a MDF type board that goes behind the seat but it was unuseable.
Please help!!

The non-folding seat, with the brackets disconnected, will also fold. Without photos I can't be sure, but your description of "missing" items sounds like you may have the non-fold, which is how 51% of 68 fastbacks were ordered. Trick question- what color is the edge trim on your seat?

Bingo. Your car doesn't have a fold-down seat. I'm guessing about the only thing that's missing is the nuts that attach the seat back to the brackets. Between the seat and the trunk you should have a masonite package tray painted to match the interior, supported by, I'm not kidding, a plywood panel.
Here's a pattern for the plywood, for people who have never seen one:

Yup yup....My 67 seat "folds down" even though it's not a fold down seat.
Here is the official part number for that cardboard wood thing.
Bonus, because I got to go out to my garage and look at my car...again....

The seat was the same in fold or non-fold cars, but was bolted permanently up in non-fold cars. There were a lot of things not included, as well, such as the front 1/3 of the folding assembly and the attaching hinge, the steel package tray vs. the wood and masonite one, and the pop-open trunk door. Also the seat edge trim was painted to match the interior, not plated. A properly done non-fold would be a novelty at car shows.
