66 mustang / needs help
I just aquired a 66 mustang that is in need of some restoration. From looking at the car its in relatively good shape. It has a 289 3speed on the floor that runs like a scolded dog. The interior is not bad, needs headliner and some basics. However, I had the floor pans replaced after finding paper was used as filler and rubberized spray was used to hide flaws. My biggest concern is the frame. Its straight but also has some rust and rubberized gunk on it. The rear wheel housings need to be replaced and I fear the trunk as well may be affected. Looking for some ideas on the frame and how worried I should be. The rust is through the rail in the rear of the car that runs along the quarter panel.. Its one relatively small area. Can I have someone weld a support on that? What options do I have? Although I have been a mustang fan for many years, this is my first attempt at getting one somewhat restored. The under carriage also has been sprayed with the rubberized crap on it. I have high hopes and looking for some relatively inexpensive options. The car does drive decent, could be a bit tighter at higher speeds 75+mph. Need some optimistic suggestions.. any suggestions?
